Barbara Roberts

Barbara has always loved to draw and paint and was greatly encouraged by her parents. She later completed a five-year program and received a degree in painting and design from the University of Cincinnati.

After college, she worked for Yale University’s Peabody Museum writing lectures for children, a job she treasured. Later she designed interiors and built architectural models with her architect husband while working for an internationally known architect.

While living in Connecticut, she had showings of her work in several galleries, She was invited to show her bird portraits by the Audubon Society in Fairfield and later at the Ducktrap Gallery in Maine.

She raised two beautiful daughters and continued to paint, focusing on watercolor portraits. After moving to Maine, into a new home on the coast designed by her husband, she gradually moved into painting the wonders of this beautiful state. She discovered that Maine has endless treasures to inspire an artist.

She was recently asked by a state senator to show her work at the state house in Augusta.

Barbara’s work strives to reach beyond the photographic realities of things and scenes around her and to explore the world with an exuberance of color and a touch of fantasy.
